Mission
The mission of the BonSailing Foundation is to encourage, promote and support the sport of sailing and related watersports. Facilitating communications and cooperation with the many clubs, organizations and companies involved in the various disciplines of sailing such as kite surfing, windsurfing, small boats, yachts, micro boats and boto piskado as well as the government and international organizations will be paramount. Providing infrastructure, equipment and qualified officials for organizing events will also be a priority.
Goals
1. Stimulate local youth and adults to participate in sailing sports by coordinating with our partners in organizing clinics in sailing, boat maintenance, boat restoration, racing official programs and other workshops to provide foundation not only in sailing itself, but to also ensure the sustainability of the sports in general on the island.
2. Organize events such as the water portion of the Bonaire Regatta and various races, camps and clinics that include multiple disciplines in sailing together.
3. Secure local and international funding to insure the training and competitions can include transportation and food such that no youth is excluded for financial reasons.
4. Promote and support participation in regional and international competitions and encourage external competitors to part take in our competitions to broaden the horizons and hone the skills of our very talented sailors.
5. Acquire and maintain the infrastructure required for competitions such as ropes, buoys, radios, starting and timing equipment and have it available for loan or rent for all competitions.
6. Provide a website to keep calendars of local, regional and international events and clinics to coordinate and promote participation
7. Promote community involvement in sailing sports by providing appropriate viewing accommodations and promotions for events.
8. Train and maintain a staff of professional officials and coordinators to facilitate in all types of events.
9. Consult and coordinate between various partners including sailing schools, wind surf and kite schools, watersport associations, Jong Bonaire, government organizations including STINAPA, INDEBON, SKAL, OLB, Police, Coast Guard and others.
10. Provide a single contact point for Government regarding sailing events.
